The reason for its popularity is its wide range of features and functionalities which eases the developer’s tasks and its simple syntax which makes code readable and comprehensible. This tutorial is intended to simplify the understanding of the Laravel framework, its functionalities, and its installation process. Take a look.

What is Laravel?

Laravel is a high-end open-source PHP framework for building powerful and dynamic web applications. This framework is developed by Taylor Otwell, in the year 2011. Since its inception, the Laravel framework gaining more and more popularity among web developers. Laravel follows MVC architecture and an object-oriented paradigm for building a web application.

What is MVC architecture?

Model-View-Controller (MVC) is an architecture developers adopt when building applications. This architecture separates data (Model), interface (View), and application logic (Controller) into three different parts. This way the code becomes more organized and easier to debug. Laravel strictly uses this architecture.

Composer

Composer is a dependency management tool for PHP and it manages the dependencies of PHP applications. This tool installs and manages third-party libraries and packages into your project. The composer tool runs through the command line. It is very similar to npm in Node.js or Bundler in Ruby on Rails.

Artisan

Artisan is a command-line interface included in Laravel. This command-line tool simplifies the building of Laravel-based applications by offering you many useful commands to create files and folders, migrate the database, configure the development environment, etc.

How to install Laravel

Step 1:

Download and install Composer on your system.

Step 2:

After Installing composer, type the following command in the command line to install Laravel.

Step 3:

After installing Laravel, you have to set read/write permissions in the Bootstrap directory.

sudo chmod -R 755 [directory_path]

Step 4:

Now navigate to the project folder and run the command php artisan serve

After executing this command, you will see the URL: http://127.0.0.1:8000;

Copy this URL and paste it into your Browser’s URL bar.

Step 5:

Now set your database configuration in the .env file

DB_CONNECTION=mysql

DB_HOST=127.0.0.1

DB_PORT=3306

DB_DATABASE=laravel

DB_USERNAME=root

DB_PASSWORD=

After the configuration set up and making changes in the .env file, don’t forget to clear the cache with the following command

php artisan config: cache

  1. Set every theme in Laravel Blade Master Template only. Keep header, footer, sidebar, and main content pages in separate files.
  2. Write every JavaScript code in the js file.
  3. Create a migration file for every table.
  4. Submit your app after completing your work and proper testing.
